I was wondering if you have any Kirsen stems you want to sell. I found out the hard way they cannot be soaked in alcohol and I have had no love trying to get any parts from them (or what’s left of them). Complete pipes are hard to come by and usually expensive. Looking for O rings too if you know of a good source.

Hi Samuel. Unfortunately I do not sell any parts fr Kirsten pipes. What happened to the stems? If they are oxidized they can be cleaned up. As for o-rings I have had good luck finding them at hardware stores… take one along to compare.

Try Kirsten directly. They have some parts and o-rings. Also metal pipes.com has replacement stems and radiators.

Soooo….I contacted Steve regarding a Bertrams Bull moose and a National Rhodesian a couple weeks ago with a bid. I can be a little…thrifty sometimes with my estate purchases. Steve politely informed me that the pipes in question were high quality and unique examples. That I would not be disappointed. He could not have been more correct. Both are in near pristine condition and indeed will be held in high esteem by me for many years to come. I thank you.
    Total Baddass pipes!
And I thank you for the surprise Steve….

Thanks again Jeff and Steve! Will spend time this evening studying the detail more closely and a couple of bowls and stat the waxing tomorrow A.M..

I have an Alfred Dunhill pipe reamer which is very old. It is a hedgehog with Alfred Dunhill Duke Street London SW on one side and Patent No 22411-08. Made in England on the other side. It is in a brown leather pouch. I cannot find out anywhere how much it is worth though one company in America says it is very rare and won’t give me a price unless I join their club for some amount of money and then have to cancel it after. I am a pensioner and can’t be bothered with all the fiddling about. Could you give me some advice? It would be VERY much appreciated.

Thank you Celia. The Hedgehog Reamer was an interesting reamer. It came out under almost every Bristish Pipemaker – Barling, GBD, Dr. Plumb, Dunhill, Comoy’s etc. It is certainly collectible to some Dunhill folks. I have seen these go for between $50-75USD but it has to catch the eye of the right person.

    Trying to figure out how to order the following 3 items;

A 6 pipe Rack and humidor combination. This solid walnut Alpen DI pipe rack is in good condition and cleaned up nicely. It is a classic 6 rack with room for three pipes on each side with space for a humidor on the end. There is a glass jar with a Rose cast on top of a brass coloured lid that is a humidor.

This Grenci Dublin from Calabria, Italy
This French Made Poker is an inexpensive addition to anyone’s rack.

Steve, in your repair blog you talked about the repair of the Dunhill Shell 41009 you currently have for sale. You stated that you polished the bowl and shank with Conservator’s Wax. Is that wax not a micro-crystalline product? I have been wondering about micro-crystalline wax applications on pipes. Since they are petroleum based and synthetic, do they allow the wood to breathe adequately (to prevent the pipe from over heating)? – I have had very good luck with Renaissance Wax on a number of wood products. I have, however, been reluctant to use it on my pipes because I have not found anyone who can address my concern (that the wax will seal the wood, preventing it from breathing).

Frank I have used it for a while now and found no issues with the breathing of the bowl. I find on the contrary that as the bowl is heated the wax dissipates and I can buff it with a soft cloth… works really well. It is pretty much the same thing as Renaissance Wax

I have recently purchased a vintage Bent Savinelli Alligator (brown) 606KS Blue stem and it needs a replacement stem and some refurbishing. Any ideas on where I could find one? I’m new to pipe smoking and picked it up on one of the bidding sites. Any info or help would be appreciated.

      Hi Mark
Good to hear from you. You might try contacting the US Savinelli dealer about a stem unless the one you have can be repaired. You are welcome to send me some photos of the stem and I will have a look and see what I can tell you. slaug@uniserve.com

Hey All, I am looking for a nice Sasieni Family Era Four Dot Waterloo and a nice Sasieni Family Era Four Dot Exeter, plus another very nice Sasieni Family Era Four Dot 88 Ashford (not the Chubby 5 1/8″) but the later near 5 1/2″ pipe. All Smooth Finish.

I have friend looking for a Dunhill 341-D and another who seeks a Bill Ashton Taylor early bent smooth finish.

They can need moderate restoration, a cleaning or be ready to smoke.

    Thanks so much!

    Best regards,

Great site. For your interest and with respect to the Sasieni Fantail Rusticated 55: A Google patent search yields the results that the US patent D-170067 was obtained in 1953 (valid for 14 years) but Sasieni patent stamping was discontinued in the late 1950s (apparently).

I am very interested in this pipe and have emailed you separately.

        Hello

I have to say I would be rather surprised if it was block meerschaum. Calabash meerschaum heads are not supposed to be block meerschaum, and are basically never (or very very rarely) made from block meerschaum. Probably because it would be pointless to use block meerschaum for a calabash, as the gourd cone takes care of the moisture (which is the one real reason to use block meerschaum in pipes). I may be wrong in this particular case ofcourse, but that’s the general rule for calabash meerschaum inserts. If you really want to make sure, there are ways to test whether it is one or the other, but as I said, I would be very surprised if this was block meerschaum, as that is not what is normally used for calabash pipes.

        Kind regards, Esbern.

Hi Arnold. Yes the pipe is still for sale at that price. If you live in the US I can ship it to you for about $8. Other places are slightly more from Canada. As for paying you can do so through my paypal account slaug@uniserve.com The total would then be $38 for the pipe and shipping to anywhere in the US. Thanks.

Oh I also picked up a second pipe just like that – little variations but it will also so be available.

      Thanks

Hi Steve I found your article on the Marshall Fields & Co pipe, this is one of the few things I have found about these pipes. I have a pipe I bought from an estate auction that is Marshall Fields & Co made in London England. This pipe doesn’t say supreme on it. It has a 3″ straight billiard mouth piece, it has not been refurbished. I am going to list it on my Etsy shop but I have no idea what to charge for it. Do you have any advice on what I should ask for it?

    Hey Steve,
Do you repair/restore pipes for others? I found a Dunhill Apple shell briar from 1942-1950 at a swap meet. It is already in decent shape I can send you pictures if you would be interested. I’ve never attempted a restoration and I don’t really want my first to be with a Dunhill.

I can give you a clue on the age, Westbrooks were made from the 1955 -to early 80s , The # 42 is a Continental Shape though and Dr. Grabow only made those shapes from early 60s to no later than 67-68.
