This is an older Astleys of Jermyn St. London pipe catalogue that I had around. I thought I would post it here so you all could enjoy a bit of the history of our hobby. Note the many shapes and shape names that are in the catalogue.

Those were the days! A shop with a similar smell and fantastic collection of pipes, as well as the grand workshop adjacent to it is J. Nicolas, Rue Gasparin in Lyon, France. Fourth generation of Nicolas who still makes his own pipes – great value for money. Worthwhile to visit, especially since he has the intention to close shop and only work through the internet.

I used to buy my pipes at Astley’s and had also some of my pipes repaired. How I wished the shop still existed; I would travel to London just for that!

Glorious! Thanks for a glimpse into the Golden Age of Pipedom revisited. How I wish I were born 50 yrs. earlier…

Wonderful. From the Astley’s marketing department….”What pipe should we put on the cover?”, why a naked lady meerschaum with fruit on her head of course! (that is an amazing piece!)
