I recently purchased a Savinelli Capri Bruno estate pipe that has an unpleasant sulfur odor interior and exterior of the vulcanite stem. It has been polished, and looks great, but reallly stinks. Unsmokeable at this point. Any suggestions?

HI Matt. Thanks for the comment. What I found is that the oxidation on a vulcanite stem is actually the sulfur coming to the surface. It tastes and smells awful. You can clean it several ways. Perhaps the easiest is to scrub the exterior and interior of the stem with Soft Scrub cleanser, rinse and repeat until the black is back. It takes time. You run pipe cleaners with the cleaner through the stem and rinse and repeat…
